(English translation)

To the Council for Democratic Reform under Constitutional Monarchy:

We, the Oxford Initiative consisting of a group of concerned Thai students at University of Oxford and the Thai public as undersigned, wish to express our disagreement with the staged coup which may lead to the concentration of power to the sole benefits of a certain group of individuals in social strata and deprive Thai people at large of their civil rights.

We request that:

1. the CDRM nullify the martial law and all declarations which are not in accordance with participatory democracy, and establish a new civilian government as soon as practically possible.

2. the CDRM leave to the civilian governments task the setup of the New Constitution drafting committee. The new constitution must retain the full spirit of the defunct B.E. 2540 Constitution, which encourages civil participation in the processes of electing, scrutinising and impeaching those exercising executive power. The new constitution will remain provisional until public hearings and peoples referendum have been held.

3. the CDRM dissolve itself immediately after (1) and (2) have been implemented. The involved individuals in the CDR must promise not to intervene in the new civilian governments affairs in any capacity once the CDRM has been dissolved.

4. the new civilian government hold a fair election under the new constitution as soon as practically possible and no later than one year after commencing their office.

Our requests are made in the hope that Thailand will remain peaceful and democratic under constitutional monarchy. In order to express our stance without jeopardising the countrys stability, we reserve our rights not to support, yet not to interfere with, the CDRMs activities until it has met our requests as stated in (1), (2) and (3).
