100% Rates Relief for Uninhabitable Christchurch Homes

Petitioning Christchurch City Council for 100% rates relief for owners of uninhabitable homes due to earthquake damage. Thousands of us are unable to live in our homes, are paying rates as part of our rent in our rented accommodation, and yet have to pay rates on the homes we can't use. So we are paying twice and we don't think that is fair and reasonable treatment from our council. We just want to pay one lot of rates like everyone else to help fund the rebuild of our city.
We would like the rates relief to last until the house is demolished or the insurance company pays out on the house.
