The following invitation from NCGUB to commemorate 15th Anniversary of the NLD Party won a landslide victory in the 1990 free and fair election in Burma motivate me to create this online campaign and petition to free 1991 Nobel Laureate and NLD Leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest.

It was true that the military regime called the election in the hope that their party would win the election but when they lost the election the regime refused the NLD Party to convene the parliament.

Lest we express our concern and say to the world that the current military rulers are illegitimately ruling the country and shamelessly house arrested Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Please help free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and free Burma from military dictatorship.

_____________________________________________________________

Following popular mass uprisings in 1988 the Burmese military junta, then known as State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC), held elections in Burma with the belief that a military-backed political party would easily win. To the surprise of the military, the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, won a stunning landslide victory with 80 percent of the total parliamentary seats on May 27, 1990. Not only did the military junta not honor the results of the 1990 general election, it launched a series of systematic and brutal crackdowns on pro-democracy activists. Elected representatives were not allowed to convene in parliament and many of those elected were arrested, tortured, dismissed, and forced into exile.

Since 1992, the United Nations has called for the implementation of the results of the 1990 elections in Burma. Despite growing international pressure and public dissent, the ruling junta still refuses to hand over power to the peoples representatives.
