The purpose of this petition is a call to the Ontario Government to fund desperately needed programs and services for individuals living with a developmental disability. Currently in Ontario there are over 13,500 individuals and families waiting for support services. Everyday families have to give up their jobs and go on welfare to be there to support their loved one---people are becoming unemployed, support workers are losing opportunities to work with individuals, and individuals are loosing the chance to learn, grow and become contributing members of their communities.
It is not acceptable that there are thousands of young adults whose lives are "on hold" and whose families are falling apart due to the lack of day programs and supports necessary to live full meaningful lives.
