A Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for the actress June Whitfield.

We the undersigned request that the film and television actress June Whitfield is made a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

June Whitfield was born on 11th November 1927 and is probably one of the best character actresses from her generation. She has starred in numerous films and television programmes over the years. Her film roles include Carry on Abroad, Carry on Girls, Carry on Columbus, Comrade and The Spy with the Cold Nose to name but a few. June is best known though for playing the wifely half of a partnership with Terry Scott in the BBC sitcom Terry and June. She also played Edina's mother in Absolutely Fabulous.

June received an OBE in 1985 for her services to acting and was promoted to CBE in 1998. We feel though, it is time to go the full way and make her a Dame.
