A Quilt In The White House

My Fellow American Quilters:
Quilts are icons of American history. Quilts reflect our culture, our values, the communities to which we belong. These functionally beautiful objects are proof that we live; they tell stories in brilliant color that we literally wrap around the people we love. And they look cool, too.
The quilt world is thriving. The fabrics are more gorgeous than ever. It's high time that a sewing machine was heard whirring in The White House again.
If you're passionate about quilts and the role quilts have played in our country's history from its inception, and if you agree with the statement below, please add your name to this petition. With 2.1 million dedicated quilters in the country, if 1/4 of us add our name, we can show Michelle, Sasha, and Malia (and Barak, of course, though he's pretty busy) that America's quilters wish to encourage, assist with, and wholeheartedly vote for a quilt in the White House in 2013!
Here it is:
"We, the undersigned, wish to encourage the First Family (esp. Mrs. Obama, Sasha, and Malia) to make a quilt in 2013. We believe the joy of quiltmaking will bring creative satisfaction and lots of smiles to the White House and will keep the American tradition of quilt-making alive and well as we head into the 21st century.
If needed, we will help thread bobbins, snip thread, and put on binding.
We believe in the power of the American quilt to bring people together and create value in the world. A quilt made by the First Family would be a gorgeous, functional, and lasting act of true patriotism. "
