Dear President George W. Bush, U.S. Senate, and U.S. Congress,
We the undersigned are petitioning for Hate Crime laws and further Hate Crime Legislation to be abolished and to be voted against in the present and future.
Hate Crime legislation gives a longer prison sentence to people based on a motive of "hate". We believe that there is no such thing as a love crime. We believe that a person should be charged on the crime he, she or they have committed, not upon what their motive was to commit the crime or the perpetrator(s) current state of mind.
Hate Crime laws are being misused and used in abusive ways targeting non-minority persons while not using the law(s) against minority perpetrators. This is in our belief unconstitutional and racist.
Hate Crime laws further divide Americans, making us think we are further different from one another by treating us differently in the Justice system. Justice should be racially blind.
