This goal of this petition is to encourage the organizers of Quakecon 2004 (www.quakecon.org) to reconsider the current tournament schedule for Quakecon 2004. The undersigned believe that the team-based, Quake 3 engine game Enemy Territory (www.splashdamage.com) should also have a tournament competition at Quakecon 2004.
Enemy Territory possesses a blend of features which make it unique to the online gaming community. Where most first person shooters emphasize a single persons skill and ability, Enemy Territory includes an emphasis on teamwork, communication, and coordination between groups of people. This additional set of parameters makes for exciting matches both for the players involved and the spectators who wish to watch online or at the LAN event itself.
Its also important to note that thanks to the generosity of Activision, id, and Splash Damage, this game was released free to the public. By doing so, it made the cost (in terms of dollars) zero which created a large fan base of players who have stayed with this game despite the proliferation of new games on the market. For example, the Team Warfare League (www.twleague.com) currently fields approximately 60 teams in their Enemy Territory League and there also exists very popular web communities based on the Wolfenstein series such as ND80USA (www.nd80usa.net) that continually bring together both new players and the dyed in the wool followers of the game.
