Adult Adoption in British Columbia: A campaign for fairness.

We, the undersigned citizens of British Columbia, are concerned about current adult adoption law in British Columbia and how it unfairly impacts B.C. families.
We respectfully request amendment of British Columbia's Adoption Act to remove clause 44(2)(a) that prevents the adoption of an adult unless "that person, as a child, lived with the applicant as a member of the family and was maintained by the applicant until the person became self supporting or became an adult."
Citizens of B.C. should have rights and freedoms that citizens of other provinces (Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia, etc.) and states (Washington, Oregon, California, New York, etc.) take for granted: to legalize family relationships between parents and children without age restrictions. The irony is that adult adoptions that have taken place in these jurisdictions are recognized under B.C. law.
Adult adoption is a legal practice dating back to Roman times. Why are B.C. citizens being restricted in being allowed to obtain legal recognition for family relationships?
Sincerely,
