As you should all be aware by now, the governing body of Brisbane State High School has put forth the proposal of vertical form classes. This entails a plan to merge form classes across all year levels by having five students from each grade in each form class. The purpose of this plan is simple: to build a bridge between the different age levels, and establish a system whereas older students nurture and guide their younger peers. It is a sign of the sheer naivety of our administration that this plan was not dismissed upon its suggestion, let along allowed to reach the stage it has entered now. As any student from any grade at Brisbane State High School will tell you, the likelihood of senior students nurturing their younger peers is laughable. As any student will tell you, the possibility a bridge shall be constructed between grades is ludicrous. Were there any sufficient evidence to prove that this proposal had potential, we would see it in our fellow peers today. There is a significant reason why students from different year levels do not currently nurture other students, or in fact for the most part, have anything to do with them at all.
The school has kindly left this in the dark, until its unveiling in the schools newsletter and brief mention at our last assembly. If you like, the majority of the student body (and seemingly, the majority of teachers as well), do not support the BSHS administration implementing vertical form classes, sign this petition. My peers, this is how we will show them what we have to say.
