Apocalypse Now Redux: Special Edition 2-Disc Set

Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now has been hailed as one of the greatest movies ever made. Last year, Coppola and editor Walter Murch decided to go back to Apocalypse Now and enhance it in time for its 22nd anniversary. The new version was called Apocalypse Now Redux and it was as greatly acclaimed as the original. But Paramount Pictures, the company that owns all video distribution rights for Apocalypse Now, has taken the rights back, put a release date out for Redux, 11/20/01, and made it a bare-bones disc. All it comes with is a new 16x9 transfer, English DD 5.1, and the theatrical trailer. This is an outrage to fans of both versions and we demand that Paramount makes a Special Edition 2-Disc set for this (they did it for Forrest Gump. Why can't they do it for this?). This is what they should do as a Special Edition.

The fact that the original version of Apocalypse Now is no longer available is enough to decry a need for a 2-disc edition. Even better would be one including both the original and Redux edition.

Paramount's reputation as a quality DVD producer is pathetic at the best of times, so here you have the chance to really impress everyone and blow away the competition with a stunning edition that all DVD fans are after.

DVDs appeal to the movie-phile, why not make this disc worth our while, since obviously Coppola has an interest in making it more to his liking. Why not go all out for the DVD?
