Arizona NFL New Team Name

To: Mr. William V. Bidwill, the Arizona Cardinals, and The National Football League,


The Cardinals franchise has never gained acceptance in Arizona since relocation. It is reflected in years of the worst attendance records, public relations, and lack of support that caused Arizona media to publicly request the sale or contraction of this franchise and label them a civic embarrassment.

When representing a region it is essential to reflect it. Arizona is represented in the NFL by geographic designation only, not by a regional and proper team name that easily associates and uniquely identifies Arizona to the nation.

Because of the largely non-indigenous population of Arizona that bring allegiances to teams of their origin, it is uniquely important to select a new team identity that will unite the community, and establish public support, as the visiting teams value is being sold to Arizona.

Arizonans provided a new and permanent home that represents a new era in sports, and determined the future of the NFL in Arizona for the next 30 years. As financial partners in the hundreds of millions of dollars, it is not unreasonable for the public to ask for a new name and image that represents their region.

The greatest value of a teams brand is the publics identity with the team, a problem that remains in Arizona. An NFL team is a regions champion, representing its civic pride and spirit. A regional name and image is a fundamental principle in that representation. Involving the public in a new team name selection allows the public to be part of the team, thereby a reason to embrace it.

Precedent is set by new team names that were selected by the public for relocated NFL teams in the 16th and 24th largest cities in America (Baltimore and Nashville) it is most appropriate for the 5th largest and fastest growing city in the United States, metro Phoenix.

The validity of this petition grows every year as support continues to decline, setting NFL records annually. This decline is a catalyst for financial disaster for the new stadium. A new and regional brand will win acceptance, improve public relations, and generate the interest and support needed to fill the new stadium.

Whereas the current team name and logo represents several eastern states as state bird, and is historically associated with its past rooted in the east, not its present, or future association with the State of Arizona,

We do hereby ask for a new National Football League team name and image, a brand that will reflect the State of Arizona and its western region it is known for worldwide.
