The use of the whip in Racing is archaic and barbaric.
It sends out the message that it is okay to hit horses. They are sentient beings and suffer from pain mentally as well as physically. Abuse and neglect of equines is commonplace and this macho, sadistic side of Racing fuels the ignorance of thousands of horse handlers.
There is no need for its use.
Anyone who ignores the fact that hitting horses is wrong is complicit in a bizarre self-serving lie.
