We, the undersigned, write to oppose the proposed elimination of the Senior Environmental Planner position in Broome County's Planning Department. This staff position is critical to the functioning of the Environmental Management Council (EMC) that is officially chartered to advise the County Legislature.
Broome County faces many policy decisions regarding how to safeguard our environment and public health from potential Marcellus Shale Horizontal Hydrofracking hazards. We urge County Executive Fiala and all members of the County Legislature to restore funding for the position.
