We the undersigned believe that the Canadian Blood Services is a vital part of our community and has helped save countless lives in the past.
However, we believe that to not allow males who have engaged in sex with another male, or females who have engaged in sex with a man who has had sex with another man, to donate blood is unnecessary given the sensitive testing Canadian Blood Services does to screen blood.
We believe this permanent deferral is denying people healthy blood and, since Canadian Blood Services screens for HIV/AIDS anyway, which is your reason for denying these people as donators, we feel that it is segregating and punishing a large part of our community.
We want the policy surrounding this permanent deferral changed to allow those who have engaged in sex with a male, who has engaged in sex with a male, to donate blood. This would no longer discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation.
