AND CHECKS ARE CARRIED OUT.BY SIGNING THIS PETITION
We the undersigned are strongly opposed to the way license issues, renewals and checks are carried out on Puppy Farms within Wales. We are concerned the current legislation for these checks is insufficient. Therefore we the undersigned request the legislation be amended to:
1. Councils not to be wholly responsible for dog breeding licenses and for these to be approved by an independent body.
2. Unannounced 3 monthly checks to be carried out by a “Non local” independent veterinary surgeon along with an independent body. In both cases completely remote from puppy farming.
3. Checks to include:
a. The mental well being of adult dogs and puppies.
b. Choosing dogs at random, all dogs should be happy to be handled.
c. To view the dogs in their exercise pens to assess play and exercise.
d. Ensure bedding provisions and the storage of these bedding
provisions are clean
4. Licenses are to be revoked immediately during the visit if legislations are not
being followed correctly.
We call on the Welsh Government to immediately enact legislation, and on local authorities or an independent body to enforce it, to ensure that all dogs are bred and reared with care and respect, such that the full range of their behavioural and health needs are properly met.
