WHEREAS the current age of majority in Ontario is 18 years allowing persons to vote in municipal, provincial, and national elections, purchase lottery, and purchase pornography, but not consume alcohol.
WHEREAS the current legal age of alcohol consumption in the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, is 18 years of age.
WHEREAS the last change of the legal age of alcohol consumption was January 1st, 1979 from 18 to 19 years of age. While, many factors for determining the legal age of alcohol consumption have changed since January 1st, 1979.
WHEREAS the majority of independent first year university and college students in Ontario are 18, and will be 18 for years to come.
WE the undersigned petition the Parliament of Ontario as follows:-
For the change of the legal age of alcohol consumption and purchase from 19 years of age to 18 years of age.
