Citizens for an Increase in Public Transportation Funding

Recently state funding for public transportation was cut. Unfortunatley with high gas prices and even lower funding amounts for our citizens, public transportation is the only way to travel in the various cities. The GCRTA ( Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority ) has claimed on their website that if more funding isn't secured, bus fairs could rise. They claim a $20,000,000 (twenty million dollar) defecit for the year of 2009. To avoid this defecit ( and to avoid a possible layoff) the GCRTA has decided to raise fares. A daily bus pass which is currently $4.00 could go up to $6.00 a $2.00 increase, while a weekly bus pass which is currently $17.50 could go up to $25.00 which is a $7.50 increase!
Mr. Strickland, please allocate more funding to our public transportation industry so we can avoid this cost!
