ClearCase, I am tired of it

To all the good folks at IBM,

All things being equal it is more likely that you would remember people like Harsha or Shaker on certain occasion than any of your other friends.

Is it any wonder when someone would talk about all those into ClearCase. I remember instances when a Rational ClearCase admin was talked about as "that clearcase guy". How more demeanig can it get. Is this not the height of embarassment? The work we do as ClearCase admin's is noway lesser than that of CVS, PVCS or Perforce administrators. It is the height of testing one's patience when a Developer says I don't know what this ClearCase is, you handle it.

The fact of the matter is it is an embarassment to all those involved with clearcase in one way or the other. It is important that we do not get categorized as pariahs. I cannot recount the embarassment I have to go through every time when I have to say what I am working on, I often try to getaway by saying I am a ClearQuest Admin. Why should I have to lie?

ClearCase should not be the single most common phrase/identity through which we the ClearCase Admin's be identified across the Developer, Managment, Accoutning and Administrative communities in an organization. Infact Rational ClearCase being the industry leading SCM software I would expect a better, more pleasant sounding name.

Atria was acquired by Rational and Rational in turn got acquired by IBM. In the milieu they might have overlooked the thorn in the flesh. I hope the "Big Blue" in all its wisdom will change the name ClearCase and help us extricate out of this perennially uneasy and difficult situation.

For starters, I have one good name it could also be termed CC, how does "CrystalClear" sound? By the way how much would you have liked to be called a CrystalClear guy?
