Creation of an Integrated Resort/Casino in Singapore

We the residents of Singapore humbly submit our electronic signatures in support of the creation of an integrated resort/casino in Singapore.

In addition to the obviously significant economic benefits arising from the growth in tourism, jobs creation, and tax revenues, the integrated resort will serve to provide a wider range of entertainment options to Singaporeans.

We wish to point out that several casinos are already within easy reach from our shores. Singaporeans, who are harmlessly seeking more varied entertainment, are already patronizing them. A local casino will simply divert them to a local establishment. Economically, it stems the outflow of funds to foreign countries. Socially, it encourages more family-oriented vacations instead of overseas gambling trips.

The Singapore society is maturing. As a progressive society we should continue to open up. We Singaporeans are socially responsible and mature enough to understand that gambling is, and should remain, a personal choice. We acknowledge that this choice comes with solemn responsibilities -- responsibilities which we consciously and willingly undertake.

Let us shed the nanny-state image and show the world that nothing is too taboo for us to handle. Indeed, we embrace this opportunity to grow as a society. We shouldn't treat a casino as a big deal -- it's just another Turf Club or other state-operated facility. If you're in the mood to have some fun or are feeling lucky, go ahead and try your hand. In the case of the Turf Club, we even have the MRT to bring you there. If on the other hand you have sworn off this variety of entertainment, then by all means stay away and let it bring no bother to you. Such freedom of choice are the hallmarks of a mature and responsible society.
