We believe that a creative writing major should be available for the University of Iowa's undergraduate students. While we appreciate the resources that undergrads already have, we are also painfully aware of their limits, particularly in comparison to the Writers' Workshop that has brought this school so much renown.
We want courses devoted to students as writers, not just as critical readers, taught by professors of the craft who are fully committed to the undergrads.
We think that students deserve the chance to earn a bachelor's degree in a subject about which they are truly passionate.
We believe that undergrads should be offered the advantages and benefits that they imagined they would receive upon admission to a school long celebrated for its encouragement of writers.
