Crossway Community, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax-exempt organization that has been providing a continuum of services for families and young children in the Kensington-Wheaton area for a number of years. Many in our community, who appreciate the standard of excellent education we provide, have asked us to consider expanding our program through elementary grades. We know that the success of our young graduates would be significantly reinforced if we could continue to teach them through elementary school years.
We are, therefore, applying to the school system to become The Community Montessori Charter School in Montgomery County with a plan to continue our present program and grow the school one grade at a time beginning with first grade in 2011; adding a second grade in 2012, and third grade in 2013. Beyond 2013, we foresee possible expansion through grade 6.
We intend to submit our application to the Board of Education on March 1, 2010. If approved at the June meeting of the Board, we will be eligible for start-up grant money from the Maryland State Department of Education, and our opening date will be September 2011 with the actual registration process for academic year 2011-2012 on January 1, 2011.
