We as a group of concerned and caring owners of cats and other small animals, are looking to improve their living condition in China. Currently there is a widespread lack of a sufficiently humane living environment for many small animals throughout China. Thousands of stray pets like cats and dogs do not get proper care, and are subjected to disastrous torture and maltreatment. All this negative activity and animal harassment deeply wears on our good-hearted nature. We as owners of small animals have created a passion to love pets as organizers of the Sina Cat Club. We now implore the Chinese government to consider for the sake and happiness of all small animals, support for a new policy, which can be a strong pedestal directly enforcing new small animal protection laws.
Recently, with the improvement of the economic position of average Chinese people, an average family in China owning a pet is already a common phenomenon that increases daily. Therefore, pets like cats and dogs are becoming an important emotional element in the happiness of their everyday life.
Still, most people do not understand how to care for small animals and how to appropriately empathize with them as living innocent beings. Many people with the inability and lack of interest to care for them later decide to abandon their petsЇ everyday. This leads to the torture and injury of helpless small animals. Domesticated pets have no way to survive on the street and later become a victim of circumstance.
We know that in China, the cultural differences are very far ranging in the many provinces of China and that some people do not share the same value system in the care for small animals. In some person's eyes, they believe that a pet can serve as a dish of Chinese food. This is of great concern to us and we hope that a measure can be enacted to help promote small animal protective knowledge and education as well as penalties for the belligerent torture of cats and dogs. So far there is not enough to prevent these kinds of activities and they continue. We therefore respectfully request that the government draw up new legal protection for small animals as soon as possible.
We hope that the government of Beijing can serve as the role model for the happiness and benefit of domesticated small animals all over China. Because Beijing is now moving towards the 2008 Olympics, there is no better time then now. China will certainly make its greatest efforts in the Olympics and in this way we know China will be a role model for the world. Anything China does, the citizens of this great nation will keenly honor. In this way all pets and small animals can share with their owners a future of safety and happiness.
