On Friday, January 17th you ordered all Dave Matthews Band/Dave Matthews/Dave Matthews & Tim Reyolds material to be removed from the online live music archive. (www.archive.org)
It is the opinion of the fan community that this was a drastic mistake on your part. The archive was a tremendous aid to all of us, and a great testament to the band's career... offering shows from the early 90's to the present.
As you obviously know, bootlegging has always been a problem with this band. Contrary to what you (and even the band) may think, the archive was a way to lower the amount of illegal sales of live performances. Fans now realized that what they may have previously been tricked into purchasing was actually available for free in the privacy of their own homes. Eliminating the archive will only worsen the bootleg situation.
Live recordings of the Dave Matthews Band are flat out the reason for the band's success. Every show is a different experience... and every tape is a different way of reliving it.
Hopefully you do not plan on taking the same route as Phish by selling live shows. By providing fans with the same type of recording for each performance, they will undoubtedly lose their character.
In closing, the Dave Matthews Band fanbase strongly urges you to review your decision, taking into account the most important factor: the fans. We ask that you again grant permission for archive.org to be a source for DMB/DM/D&T live material.
