Subject: Parole Denial to Paulette Sherfield Goodeon, Offender #00448924, Macon County Jail
Dear Parole Board Members:
We, the signers of this petition, are requesting the Board to deny parole for Paulette Sherfield Goodeon whose hearing is scheduled on June 22, 2009. There are three basic reasons for making this appeal.
First, we believe the facts surrounding the solicitation of first degree murder she committed, and her remorseless behavior that followed, shows she is a reckless, violent individual with no regard towards human life. We believe that imprisonment cannot reform her and that society would be at great risk if she were to be released.
Second, there are previous crimes that she has committed, unknown to this Board, the details for which are presented below.
Third, we contend that one and a half years imprisonment is far too short for the crimes she committed and confessed to.
In support of these arguments we offer the following information, which is derived from official police and court records:
On June 8, 2007, Paulette made a phone call to the her ex-husband Scott Goodeons girlfriend, Tammy Burrow, demanding she stay away from her children. Paulette stated she had Tammys address and social security number and knew she had two children. Paulette proceeded by threatening to have Tammys children abducted and taken to Mexico. During this conversation, Paulette stated that Scott wouldnt see his kids again if Tammy didnt stay away from her children. Tammy reminded Paulette that she would be breaking the court order concerning custody and Paulette stated she didnt care what she would be breaking. A restraining order was placed on Paulette Goodeon on July 30, 2007, in White County, Tennessee on Tammy Burrows behalf.
On July 30, 2007, a complaint was filed with the Putnam County Courthouse against Paulette for 5 counts of contempt regarding child custody. The contempt charges were entered on August 9, 2007.
On August 17, 2007, Paulette was arrested for theft that arose from stolen checks. The victim was Delsie Wright, a distant relative to Paulette. The checks were presented to Wal-mart stores surrounding the Cookeville, Tennessee area. Charges were dismissed; however, it was only after her family paid restitution.
We believe that Paulette Goodeons real motivation for solicitation of murder of another human being was greed and selfishness. Paulette Goodeon provided a pistol, syringe, and potassium chloride, which can induce a heart attack, with thorough instructions (which she had researched for approximately six months) on how to use the potassium chloride to commit murder.
Although she didnt succeed in her attempt to have Scott L. Goodeon killed, we believe she will attempt murder again.
Several meetings took place between the would-be killer and Goodeon, one at which Goodeons minor children were present. Paulette Goodeon plotted to have Scott Goodeon murdered at either the McDonalds located in Algood, Tennessee, while the children were present, or at Scott Goodeons attorneys office in downtown Cookeville. Goodeon was given several opportunities to abrogate the deal, all of which she declined. Paulette Goodeon furnished the man with the exact dates and times when Scott Goodeon would be located at these places. Paulette also stated that if the murder went as planned there may be a second person, a female that needed to be taken care of as well. However, what Paulette Goodeon did not know was that the man she had hired was an undercover detective. Therefore, her plan was not carried out. The night of November 27, 2007, approximately one hundred social security numbers, along with dates of birth, etc., which she planned to use as partial payment, were seized and she was arrested. At that time, it was noted on the arrest record that Paulette screamed, I hope you burn in hell! to Scott Goodeon.
Paulette Goodeon, at the time of her arrest, was living in a rental house at 167 Epperson Avenue in Algood, Tennessee, and was unemployed for approximately three years. Paulette Goodeon had no means to support herself or her children other than child support and a portion of the victims retirement for the United States Army. She had no savings or personal property of any value. The Algood Police Department stated that Paulette Goodeon had recently taken out a life insurance policy on Scott Goodeon, her ex-husband. We believe the solicitation of first degree murder was partially for monetary gains.
Paulette Goodeon plead guilty on December 16, 2007. During the sentencing hearing, Paulette Goodeon apologized to her children and family for her actions. She never apologized to the victim, Scott Goodeon, thus showing a lack of remorse for her actions.
We believe that the nineteen months she has served to date is far too short given the crime she committed and the lack of remorse. A fellow prisoner and others who have visited her have stated that Paulette claimed that when she is released from jail, she
intends to finish the job herself. It has been reported that Paulette claims to this date that her actions were justified in order to protect her children, and she would do it again.
Since incarcerated, Paulette has already broken a restraining order by contacting their two minor children in writing. This was brought to the attention of the judge at Paulettes sentencing on December 16, 2008.
We do not believe that Paulette Goodeon is rehabilitated, but that she remains what she was when she was imprisoned, a vengeful human being who was willing to kill the father of her children . The family of Scott Goodeon still lives in fear of Paulette Goodeon, and have undergone counseling to deal with the emotional trauma of the ordeal.
We plead that you consider these facts, deny parole to Paulette Goodeon and keep our community safe from her. We also ask of you to find it within yourselves to have her relocated to a womens prison, at which she may receive a mental evaluation and counseling.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
