On Valentines Day the 14th February 1981, 48 young people were murdered when fire engulfed the Stardust Ballroom in the working lass area of Artane on the Northside of Dublin. Amongst them was Francis and Maureen Lawlor a young married couple who left behind an extended family including an 18-month-old daughter.
The Government held a Tribunal of Inquiry headed by a High Court Judge. The Tribunal found the following:
1. The Locking and chaining of the emergency exits was the result of a policy imitated by Eamon Butterly (9.41)
2. The decision to keep the exits locked and chained was made by Eamon
Butterly (9.42)
3. Mr Eamon Butterly, bears a special responsibility for the practice of
keeping the emergency exits secured with chains.. a recklessly dangerous
practice, which regularly endangered the lives of over 1000 people ..
contributing to avoidable deaths and injuries(8.31)
4. Eamon Butterly . Did not give the Gardai the assistance to which they
were entitled (9.65)

The Lawlor family believe that there are sufficient grounds in the tribunal report for the DPP to charge Eamon Butterly with murder. In 25years the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has refused to do so, we demand that he lay those charges now.

Please sign the petition demanding that the DPP acts now.
