Drinking Age should be 18

This petition is designed for one main purpose and that is to fight for our rights as 18 year old adults, to be able to buy and consume alcohol at our discretion. If we can fight for our country, gamble our life away, be drafted, be sentenced to life in prison, and other various things that only as an adult you can enjoy....than we should be able to drink legally.

1) By signing this petition, you are committed to this idea and are willing to spread the word around. The more people who sign this petition that can vote, the more likely a politician will listen to us. Please dont sign this petition if you think this is a joke because its not to me.

Another point I wanted to make is the likely arguments from MADD and other organizations. I do sympathize with their causes and I agree that drunk people should not drive, but I am a legal adult. If they want to keep the drinking age at 21, than make the age to joining the military 21 as well. The real problem isnt the age but the people who drive when they are impaired. However, there are preventive measures that have not been made and should have been made a long time ago. The United Statess transportation system is pretty bad. So here is my second part to the petition.

2) If everyone is so worried about adults driving around drunk, than maybe the local governments, state, and national government should start providing adequate transportation for people that choose to drink.

Take this fact for example ( http://www.pittslaw.com/dd.html) Approximately 10,000 people die and 250,000 people are injured each year as a result of individuals who continually drink and drive. In addition, chronic drinking drivers cost the economy $1.5 billion per year in enforcement and adjudication and $45 billion per year in property damage

Why dont we take that money that is spent dealing with drunken driving and instead make it easier for people to get access to buses and cabs therefore preventing accidents and terrible losses of life. I know it sounds like a fantasy, but if we provide the transportation, there should be no reason why keys should be in the hands of someone who is drunk. I know of course that not everyone will just jump into a bus or cab, but by making alcohol awareness more of a natural process such as in Europe, where alcohol isnt a taboo but just another chose with dinner, we can teach people early on about alcohol, both positive and negative, and hopefully discourage binge drinking and drunk driving.

By signing this petition you agree that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 and that by doing so, the government should start working on the transportation system and making options available for people that choose to drink.
