Earnse Bay access action

Sea defence work will soon start at Earnse Bay on Walney Island with a reported budget in excess of £600, 000. Despite this budget the road access that dates back as far as anyone still alive can remember will not be reinstated. The Marine Management Organisiation has directed the Barrow Borough Council to not reinstate road access to the shore front, in fact they have offered funding to have a barrier fitted. This beach has always been accessible to the people of Barrow and the MMO have given reasons that are unsubstantiated. Mainly they claim vehicles have caused damage to vegetated shingle on the shore front. This petition is to demand a consultation period to include all interested parties, we will demand evidence is given to back up their claims This issue will have a negative effect on many locals and visitors and such decisions should never have taken place without proof of any adverse effects on the shore front. The councils hands are pretty tied as the plans for the sea defences have been passed with the MMO demanding the road is not reinstated thus giving the council no option but to agree in the interim. Please help voice our dissapointment by siging this petition. More information will soon be available on Facebook group Earnse Bay access action group.
