Eliminate Peanuts and Tree Nuts from Concords Elementary Schools
Many people do not realize that peanut and tree nut allergies are life-threatening. It is not just a case of hives and a visit to the doctor. In fact, inhaling/breathing in or touching small amounts of peanuts can lead to anaphylaxis and death. Approximately 100 people die yearly from peanut allergies alone. Three children have died in Massachusetts since 1999 from exposure to peanuts or tree nuts in schools.
Given the potential for life-threatening consequences, a number of public and private schools in the United States and Canada have banned nut products.
