Energy Independence Now

Enough!



Its time for the United States to become energy independent. We cannot continue to rely on importing oil from hostile nations. We the undersigned demand that our government take the following steps to bring us to energy independence:



Congress and the president shall create a department of energy independence to coordinate exploration of traditional petroleum resources as well as develop new energy sources in the United States within 5 years.



Create generous tax credits for those companies who develop wind powered electric generating facilities.



Generous tax credits for home owners who install solar electric or solar water heating devices where appropriate.



Give tax credits for drivers who purchase energy efficient vehicles.



Create an inventory of US owned oil reserves and a plan for developing them.



Offer states incentives for building new refineries.



Develop an infrastructure for the environmentally responsible conversion of coal to vehicle fuel.



Expand research and development of bio-fuels such as hydrogen from algae and ethanol from stitch grass.



If our current suppliers of petroleum drop the price of crude to discourage our efforts, the government will impose a tariff on imports to both keep our efforts on track and finance our new energy programs.
