Expand the Sport Pilot and Light-Sport Aircraft rules to accomoodate advanced pilots

We would like to petition the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to expand the Sport Pilot and Light-Sport Aircraft rules to include the following:

Sport Pilot/transitional pilot:

1. To allow previously qualified "private pilot" with complex aircraft endorsement to fly an aircraft that will meet the transitional sport aircraft prescribed by the FAA.
2. To allow a private pilot described above to hold flying privileges under the sport pilot provisions, plus, complex aircraft flying using an aircraft that will meet the FAA transitional aircraft description.
3. That a only previously qualified private pilot with complex endorsement can exercise the LSA/T privileges.


Light Sport Aircraft/Transitional:

1. To adopt a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA)/Transitional into the FAA list of eligible aircraft under the light sport aircraft category of airplanes. These airplanes will be similar in performance specifications and limitations as in with any other LSA, except for...

a. Speed limitations are increased from 120 knots (LSA) to a maximum cruise speed of 140 knots (LSA/T).

b. LSA/T can be a complex, retractable geared aircraft that meets the typical LSA weight, stall, and seating limitations.

The purpose of this petition is to open an expanded option for pilots with years of experience, and hundreds and thousands of hours of flying, to keep flying a more advanced aircraft even in a reduced capacity under the LSA/T.

The additional performance enhancement should not overbear the already experienced pilot, and create a realistic alternative to their flying lifestyle. Many of these pilots still hold a valid need to keep flying due to personal and professional needs. Most have flown high-performance aircraft prior to their voluntary surrender of private pilot privileges, or, being told they can no longer fly their airplane of choice.

The LSA/T is NOT intended for the zero hour pilot. It is for the professional or semi-professional pilot wishing to continue flying a more capable aircraft that they are more accustomed to.

Please consider this as an add-on to your already successful Light sport aircraft, and sport pilot programs.
