Extend Separation of Church and State to Inaugurations

We believe that, as a country founded on the idea of separation of church and state, government officials should not swear on a holy book or item when being inaugurated. They should, instead, swear on the Constitution that they are promising to support and defend. We hope that Senator Feinstein will bring our idea to the Senate along with these signatures backing our proposal. We believe that the president, governors, and any other government official should swear on the literature connected to the countrys history, not a holy or religious writing. They should swear by something that every person in America is willing to stand by and defend, something that every American respects: the Constitution.
