Full Speed Internet in our Rooms

To whom it may concern at the AUT Wellesley Student Apartments,

the aim of this petition is to CLAIM FOR A LEGITIMATE INTERNET SPEED IN OUR ROOMS.

At the moment, the internet speed in our rooms is very slow : 10KB/s on average. It's generally very difficult to watch any video and nearly impossible to download anything big without waiting for ages.

"So why a petition? Isn't it just a technical issue?"
- No, it isn't. Try to go on aut.ac.nz or apple.com and download or watch a video there and you'll see how fast our connection can be.

A simple way of checking that is to download iTunes on apple.com :
- Follow this link : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
- And be amazed! The speed should be around 4 MB/s, which means that you're going to download about 100 MB in. about 30 seconds!


"So what does it mean?"
- It means that the content we try to access on the internet from our rooms is FILTERED. Some website like aut.ac.nz and apple.com for example are at full speed and most of the rest is LIMITED.

-- The aim of this petition is to claim a FULL SPEED on EVERY CONTENT on the INTERNET for our rooms from Orcon. --

Just as reminder, according to the Orcon contract we signed for our internet connection, we are paying for "1 Mbps service". So we should have AT LEAST 1 Mbps on EVERY CONTENT on the internet from our rooms.
