I think this game needs a beta due to how messy Gears 2 was (and many feel still is).
There is no excuse not to do a beta. Cliffy B once said that the reason they didn't do a beta or demo is because it's like "sleeping with a hot chick. Afterwards you're like 'yeah I hit that already'". Despite that being funny, the performance of Gears 2 online was pretty sloppy and a beta is really needed.
