WHEREAS in the last three decades, interdisciplinary fields of knowledge known as gay studies, gay and lesbian studies, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and transsexual studies, queer studies, sex, gender and sexuality studies and sexuality studies have been attracting more and more scholarly attention across North America;
AND WHEREAS more than 180 post-secondary institutions in North America now have courses, certificates, minors, majors, programs, departments, library and archival collections, and research centres in these fields, including minors at Concordia University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto, the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor;
WE, the students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of McGill University, in support of academic excellence and academic diversity, call on the university to establish an interdisciplinary minor and permit students to pursue a coherent interdisciplinary program of study in one of the most important and fundamental areas of social, cultural and political life:
