German Beer at FIFA World Cup 2006

The online-based news-community BeersAndBabes.de (www.beersandbabes.de) hereby
opposes against the FIFA (www.fifa.com) plans to permit only the consumption
of Anheuser-Busch beer brands (Budweiser) during the FIFA World Cup 2006 in
Germany.
Sure, we accept marketing interest and the underlying agreement between Anheuser-Busch
and the FIFA, but we do not accept the restrictive and rigid policies of both
parties.
Like the Olympic Games the FIFA World Cup is a celebration of sports and nations
from all over the world - presented every four years in a different country.
The underlying rationale is to embed the game of soccer in a cultural presentation
of the host country. Hence the host country of Germany as a nation proud to
have bred some of the finest beers in the world has an inherent right to present
our culture and our beers, which are an essential part of our identity and our
love to soccer, to the world.
Therefore BeersAndBabes.de states:
1. We do not accept that the FIFA and Anheuser-Busch will
dominate this event under sole considerations of economic interests.
2. We accept Budweiser as the sponsor of the World-Cup, with the right
to dominate advertisings in the media as well as in the sport-arenas.
3. But we insist on the freedom of fans to have their favourite
beer of choice - inside and outside the sport-arenas.
4. We insist on the right of the German Brewers, who supported
soccer in Germany for decades and assisted in making the FIFA World Cup 2006
possible, to present their own German Beer in and around the stadiums of the
World Cup - in a friendly coexistence with Anheuser-Busch.
On behalf all parties, we appeal to FIFA & Anheuser-Busch to loosen their
rigid constraints during the 2006 FIFA World Cup and to permit domestic brewers
to offer their local beers! Thereby FIFA & Anheuser-Busch would enable and
support the idea of the World Cup and prove their greatness and true sportsmanship.
A soccer World Cup in Germany without our beer is like a soccer World Cup without
a ball.
