Dear President Simon,
As a concerned member of the university community, I am writing to urge you to encourage fair contract negotiations with the Graduate Employees Union.
Members of the faculty have been watching the progress, or lack thereof, of bargaining over the past several months with great interest. The most recent economic proposals that the MSU administration has presented to these valuable employees are not in keeping with MSUs reputation, standards, and treatment of other employees on campus. Hundreds of faculty and most departments rely on these graduate employees to help provide quality education to MSU students. Offering GEU less than cost of living increases while all other University employees have received sizable wage and benefit improvements, at a time when the University has more resources than ever, is unacceptable.
I look forward to hearing that you have brought these negotiations to a swift and just conclusion.
