Girard College Students Speak Out

Dear Girard College faculty and staff,


We the students of Girard College feel as though we should have the privilege to have the following items in our possessions, if we feel safe enough to take that risk:





Ipods- We feel we should the privilege to have these items during the weekdays and weekends because we feel we responsible enough to take care of our own property, for those students who have had this item stolen they decided to take that risk.





Cell Phones- We should be allowed to have cell phones during after school hours because some students live out of state or sometimes it maybe because of emergencies. We feel we should be able to have them after school hours and houseparents should take them away during bedtime.





PSP- Students should be allowed PSP (PlayStation Portable) because sometimes students have to entertain themselves with games and such. If the student allows another student to use their PSP they are trusting them to hold it and take care of it.





Headphones/Cd Players/ MP3s/ Ipods are not permitted in the dining hall- There is no reason in particular for students not to have music during the dining hall. Maybe the weather outside is to cold, and the students wish to relax indoors, and listen to music. Theres no absolute reason for anyone to not have music.(With the exception to foul language.)





With those following items I think we should be allowed to have those. And the staff/faculty should have more trust in the students. We understand you are doing this for our own risk but we also understand that we need to have some type of entertainment system.


Please keep this in mind: Girard College has taught the students here to speak our minds.
