Give BNL A GSA!!!

By signing this petition, you indicate that you believe that Bedford North Lawrence High School, Bedford, Indiana should have a GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance). When you sign this it does not mean you have to attend these meetings, this just means that you are saying that you support this cause. The Gay/Straight Alliance is a national organization that offers a place for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning teens to feel safe and welcome, while also allowing them to be themselves without fear of being judged. GSAs, are student-led and student-organized school clubs that aim to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting school environment for all youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. As a group, the GSA wouldnt just offer support, but the group would also participate in community projects, raise funds for people in need, and raise awareness about LGBTQ issues. The club IS NOT just for people of the LGBTQ community, but is open for anyone gay or straight, as long as they are supportive of the GSA. The GSA DOES NOT promote or suggest that people should be gay. We believe that a GSA is a much needed group in our high school, because BNL is located in such a conservative area. If there were such a group to offer support, perhaps more students would become more comfortable with themselves, and not have to hide who they really are as a person.
