A Pakhtoon Nelson Mandela born in Asia
This Petition is specifically addressed to The Norwegian Nobel Committee, Henrik Ibsens gate 51 NO-0255 Oslo, Norway and for special consideration by former Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Members of National Assemblies of Pakistan and India, leaders of peace research institutes & institutes of foreign affairs and former Advisers at the Norwegian Nobel Institute. The purpose of this petition is to highlight the greatness and competence of a great peace-maker called KHAN ABDUL GHAFFAR KHAN (commonly known as BACHA KHAN) who devoted his entire life for preaching peace and welfare of people.
Bacha Khan was a freedom fighter for his people against the vicious British Empire in India. There is no denial to the fact that the life story of Bacha Khan is in itself the history of Pakhtoons full of patience and self-determination, life-long trials and tribulation, courage and grim resolve which sprang from a consciousness of virtue, unpretentious life-style and his unbeaten struggle to liberate his people from the domination of the British Empire. Bacha Khan was a man of commitment who firmly believed that liberty is Almighty God's gift to mankind. Hence, in his opinion, the obligation to respect liberty of mankind is equally sacred. It goes without saying that Bacha Khan , the great Pakhtoon hero of courage ruled over the hearts of his people, who with a voice that did not err, lived for the sake of serving the sadly neglected Pakhtoons. He was and still is the eternal symbol of Pakhtoon's pride and courage. Bacha Khan waged a relentless non-violent struggle against the British colonial rule which was full of exploitation, hatred and conspiracies. Bacha Khan was an Asian NELSON MANDELA of his time who always remained sincere, steadfast in his actions, served no personal ends, gained no titles and was indeed a man of great character.
Bacha Khan suffered the tortures of solitary confinement, heavy chains on his hands and feet, dirt and filth and lice and hunger, and most of all insults and kicks from the lowest and most inferior British soldiers. He was always a model prisoner like Nelson Mandela. He was a kind man and gentle even with his enemies. He forgave every thing to everyone, and possessed unlimited patience. He treated his captors with sublime contempt.
Bach Khan's ordinary attitude and behaviour portrayed his moral personality. With a mind free of fear and prejudice, honouring him as a legendary politician of the Indo-Pak subcontinent, Bacha Khan himself was greater than the legend. He was looked upon, respected and adored as a saint politician by his millions of followers. He was, no doubt, not less than a real saint to rise against the mightiest power on earth with his invincible determination and unshakable resolve launching a formidable non-violent struggle against the then British rulers. Bacha Khan stood for, fought for and suffered for his people exactly in the same manner like Nelson Mandela of South Africa. This very fact lent support to his will and determination in learning to survive despite obstacles and hardships that rendered strength and elevation to the freedom struggle. Once a close companion of Bacha Khan complained bitterly about the inhuman and ruthless manner in which the Red-Shirt volunteers were made a target of torture by the British Colonial Administration, Bacha Khan consoled his companion and told him not to lose faith, rather set about doing good to people. This was exactly what Nelson Mandela did in South Africa.
Bacha Khan was always subjected to trials and political persecution. Being a great humanist, he ardently believed that human nature was not so worthless as to hinder it from respecting goodness in others. It is easy to look down on others but to make an estimate of our failing is difficult. God's blessings, according to Bacha Khan, are marked for those, who submit to God's will and serve Almighty God through selfless activities for the overall good of humanity at large irrespective of caste, colour, race or religions . To Bacha Khan's mind, love was useful to further strengthened his character. Deeply influenced, it produced in him a holiness that fortified his faith and convictions, elevating the spirit of those whom he served selflessly.
Bacha Khan is no longer with his people. His love, affection, lifelong sufferings in the service of Pakhtoons and safeguarding the spirit of Pakhtoon traditions will remain a great source of inspiration. The great and the finest Pakhtoon freedom fighter Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (Bacha Khan) did not fail since he lived and died for a great and noble cause. The sweet remembrance of the legendary Bacha Khan shall flourish everlastingly while he sleeps peacefully in his lightning grave.
I, therefore, urge The Norwegian Nobel Committee Henrik Ibsens gate 51 NO-0255 OSLO Norway, former Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Members of National Assemblies of Pakistan and India, leaders of peace research institutes & institutes of foreign affairs and former Advisers at the Norwegian Nobel Institute to nominate BACHA KHAN for Nobel Peace Prize of 2007. I want all peace-loving people of this world, who believe in fight for freedom and struggle for elevation of mankind, to sign this Petition. This will prove that our world is still a place of good human beings who can recognize and salute good men.
