To Mayor Richard W. Meehan and the Town of Ocean City Maryland,
Upon the occurrence of recent events over the weekend of September 28th, 2007, we, the collective group of Volkswagen enthusiasts hereby wish to apologize to you and your town as a whole for the disrespectful and completely deplorable actions causes by a small group of our peers.
As the old adage says, a few bad apples can spoil the bunch, we would like to formally recognize and offer our sincerest apologies as a group. As members of such a community, words cannot express how truly sorry we are for the anxiety, frustration and inconvenience that you and your colleagues experienced. This is especially saddening because the H2O International car show has been promised as being the most laid back show of the season and one that many, if not all, look forward to attending the entire year. We know we failed to deliver on this promise last weekend.
We are committed to you and are taking immediate corrective steps to regain your confidence in us. You deserved better - a lot better - from us last weekend and we let you down. Nothing is more important than regaining your trust and all of us as a whole hope you will give us the opportunity to once again attend the car show in your town again.
What happened in Ocean City is a humbling reminder that reputation is something we, as a group, earn every day and we hope that this letter is a start to regain your respect again.
