Hollyoaks: In The City

Being placed in a competitive Monday night at 9pm timeslot has hardly done it any favours, as has the lack of proper promotion. Many fans also believe that the presence of the word "Hollyoaks" in the title, as well as the presence of the characters Ben Davies and Lisa Hunter, has lead to low ratings as the characters' popularity amongst fans went downhill following their previous spin off series, the far inferior "Hollyoaks: Let Loose".
We, the undersigned, urge Channel 4 to give the series another chance to shine, as the strong cast and great writing has proved that it deserves one. It is also a breath of fresh air in a TV climate filled with soap operas, crime series and reality TV shows, not to mention the abundance of American imports. There is a real need for new British drama that breaks out from the standard crime/mystery/romance tags and brings something new and fresh to the schedules. Had Channel 4 / E4 given the series a more suitable and less competitive timeslot (such as Wednesdays at 9pm which is currently filled with repeats of US import Desperate Housewives) then we believe the series could have performed far better, and if there was better promotion for the series then it could have also gained more of a buzz from viewers and the media alike. For example, last week saw the arrival of actress Claire King to the series in the role of Stella. Had C4 been smart they would have promoted this event heavily on adverts due to King's most famous role being "super bitch" Kim Tate on Emmerdale...and this could have gained some extra publicity for the series.
We, the undersigned, urge Channel 4 to bring the series back for another series, as it is very rare for a British drama to gain such a cult following and online buzz as "Hollyoaks: In The City" has, with a thread on Digital Spy's forums proving to be a very popular place for fans (and some cast) to interact and discuss the series. We strongly believe that with the continually great writing, production and acting that "In The City" has provided us with, not to mention the great entertainment. So we urge Channel 4 to take notice and listen to what the fans want...bring it back!
