CAMPAIGN TO INCREASE AWARENESS ABOUT GENOCIDE

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DISPLAY OF SPECTACLES

We salute Liverpool Town Hall staff for producing such an imaginative, stunning and impressive artistic display of spectacles during the National Holocaust Memorial programme in Liverpool during January 2008.

Inspired by images of mounds of spectacles found in the Holocaust concentration camps, the RESPECTacles display provided dignity for all victims of persecution, including the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and now Darfur.

The display powerfully and emotionally succeeded in transmitting its vital message: "Imaginerememberreflectreact giving hope for a future in which we all respect each other and our differences and live in peace.

We believe this display must be continued, in order to enable more people, especially younger people, to learn about the causes of genocide and how to prevent such atrocities occurring again.

We support Liverpool Town Halls and the City Councils efforts to identify a suitable display site and we urge all relevant authorities to assist them.
