Since 2000, the State of Ohio has decreased General Revenue Funding for public transit from $44.32 million to $10.87 million in 2010. This 75\% reduction has negatively impacted 59 local transit systems across Ohio. While the typical state in the nation contributes 23\% of the operating funds for transit from their state budget, Ohio contributes less than 3\%.
No re-authorization of the federal transportation law has left transit systems to operate without a predictable level of funding.
Investing in public transit not only creates jobs but generates $4 in economic returns for every $1 invested.
We, the undersigned, sincerely believe that the state and federal government need to work together and provide Laketran with $800,000 a year to restore weeknight, holiday and Saturday services eliminated because of the economic downturn allowing people to access jobs, healthcare, education, shopping and recreation.
