John was killed in action in August of 2005 by an improvised explosive device while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. At the time of his death John was a member of the PA Army National Guards Norristown based unit. John enlisted shortly after the horrors of 9/11 took place at a time when many his age are considering the end of their military careers. Johns desire to serve his nation took him away from his career as a Whitpain Township Firefighter/EMT where he also served with distinction. His lifelong dream of working as a Firefighter was spurred on by the time he spent as a proud volunteer in a Montgomery County volunteer fire department. Johns entire adult life was spent in service to the people of this county. Thousands of residents in townships and boroughs throughout this great county were touched in some way by John during his career.
We the undersigned firmly believe that the renaming of the Montgomery Center in honor of John is a fitting and lasting tribute to this proud public servant. Every day hundreds of residents and County employees will be reminded that there are those amongst us willing to serve and ultimately make the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of others.
