This petition is in regards to the closing of Spofford Juvenile Detention Center. While Spofford has been closed and is no longer housing juveniles, we are urging people to sign our petition to make sure that this facility is never used again as a jail or detention center for adolescents. Instead of sending juveniles to jail we want to help secure reform and community based alternatives to detention centers; research has found this is much more beneficial. We are hoping to facilitate a partnership between the South Bronx Community Congress and JDAI in order to implement their model of juvenile justice reform. The JDAIs model for juvenile justice reform has been implemented in 24 states and has a proven record of success.
