We the families of Greensprings Plantation Governor's Ridge and Greensprings West would like to express our deepest concern about the proposed plan to send Greensprings Plantation Governor's Ridge to DJ Montague next year as part of the new district wide redistricting. The reasons we oppose this move are as follows:
The criteria set up as the goals of redistricting are:
A) Keep students at the closest possible school
FACT: Matoaka Elementary is .7 miles from the entrance of Greensprings Plantation Governors Ridge and IS the closest possible school to our section of Greensprings.
B) Limit the number of times a student is redistricted.
FACT: Greensprings Plantation has been redistricted 3 times in the past nine years and recently redistricted to Matoaka two years ago.
C) Keeping Neighborhoods Together.
FACT: Greensprings Plantation and Greensprings West rely on each other for emergency contacts, carpooling and back-up childcare and support. With Greensprings Plantation Governor's Ridge moving to DJ we will be on two separate school schedules and the support systems will be non-existent.
We ask the School Board to consider the impact on the 30 students who live in Greensprings Plantation Governors Ridge. The criteria are public knowledge and the facts are undeniable. Greensprings Plantation students belong at Matoaka.
By signing the petition below we are stating our desire to allow our children to continue to be part of the Greensprings Community at Matoaka, therefore keeping our essential neighborhood support system intact. We understand the difficult task the school board is charged with but we ask that you reconsider this decision based on the number of families that are truly impacted by this decision.
