Kids Fight Back Against Predators.

Dear Governor Craig Benson,

The following is an editorial I submitted to local newspapers. The last paragrapgh outlines the concept. In speaking with numerous people, I seem to have continued public support on the upcoming proposal. My proposal is to implement child safety, awareness, prevention and self defense classes within our educational system. Possibly through the health and phys ed classes already offered, therefore there would no increases in taxes. I would very much like to have your support and continue on up through legislation to Congress. Your input would greatly appreciated.

Kids Fight Back.

The blatant flaw in our legal system in regard to Carlie Brucia's kidnapping and murder is despicable. Any and all judges, law enforcement officers, probation officers, and prosecutors that have taken part in the decision making process of Joseph P. Smith's criminal incarceration and release, a man who has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993 I might add, holds a distinct hand in the last moments that led little Carlie through the parking lot to the end of her life. Our legal system enabled and allowed a convicted criminal and known predator to walk freely and openly. This known offender was more protected than the child in whom he performed the unthinkable on - a child's brutal, unnecessary, ultimate sacrificial, and unasked for tragic dismissal of childhood life. I can throw some more adjectives in that last statement if need be to deliver my point crystal clear, or perhaps the picture of a body bag that isn't made for children should be a blatant reminder.

What in Gods name were any of our lawmakers thinking when they let this man walk free? How many times does one cry wolf? And if there are indeed Angels, do they come from Heaven or Hell? It's time we cry loud enough to be heard. The blood is on all our hands.

I am angry and infuriated at our legal system. This is not the first time, such careless efforts have caused the death to innocence, and surely if we don't wake up and take action, this won't be the last. How many children will die in vain, by the hands of strangers or family and friends because they as children don't have rights, they don't have advocates protecting them from a violence they can neither fathom nor ask for? You can bet if it was one of our top lawmakers son or daughter who was assaulted by this animal years ago, that man would never have seen the light of day back then. Yes, that is an accusatory, yet very true statement that I take no disgrace in broadcasting out loud. Throwing stones is one thing, finding fault where credit is due, is another. Our laws are too vast and unpredictable. And I'm not afraid to say in public, politically correct or not, if any man, woman or monster ever abuses my children, I'll be the first in line to destroy the beast, inch by inch, while keeping the evil alive until it was begging for death. For all you Bible Doers, re read that passage, AN EYE FOR AN EYE...Tough statement, however murder against children isn't easy. Am I bitter and jaded, damn straight I am. More of you should be right there behind me, not only do I expect a line, I demand it, for the sake of our children. A child can't even walk home from a friend's house without getting taken out of this world through violent acts of randomness. This is what our tax payer's money goes to, protecting, feeding, educating and releasing the criminals to hurt again.

To all Americans; where are you while Americans prey on other Americans? Are you
lost in the sand pits of Iraq? Are you hung up on the moon? Or simply too busy to look around and observe your current environment. I suggest we all find our way home, because it could be anyone's child this happens to, mine and even yours. Or at the very least, offer effort to all the lost children and a promise to try harder to protect their innocence. Perhaps we shouldn't look so far away and disregard what is right before our eyes.

I make no apologies for being unable to comprehend the meaning of our society's ignorance and accepted deviant behavior. I further do not apologize for voicing the opinion our politicians whisper but are afraid to act upon. I can only hope that the last image of a child seen so alive fuses in ones memory, because that little girl died without cause and if her memory lives on, maybe, just maybe, if we step up to plate, we will find the unity to prevent further acts of abomination and forever stop the beast that masquerades as man and preys upon our babies.

We can fight back. I would like very much to see mandatory awareness, prevention, self-defense and educational classes implemented throughout our school system. The argument can be made that it is parental responsibility. No, it is SOCIETYS responsibility. No man is an island. Lets work together as one and equal, not biased by race, creed, or status and protect our children. Let's put our educational taxes to the test, our money where our heart is and stop the atrocities that prey on the ones we love. I realize this is not fool proof, but if we can prevent one child from being hurt or killed, it is all worthwhile. There are some things in life, one simply cannot put a price tag on and that is the sweet blessing of a child's life. I think every parent in America, and across our great lands can we agree with me there.

I mean no verbal attack directly on any one person, or organization. I am simply soliciting a plea for help. I further, thank all of our protective agencies for the time, dedication, tears and sweat they give to citizens so freely. My regret is that criminals, such as Joseph P. Smith, get lost in the system, and I know, we as humans can wage war to keep these individuals off the streets and make our children street smarter.
