After decades of history for the BMX community at the Lansdowne Bowl, the county decided to no longer allow BMX riders to use the facilities. We as the BMX community of Maryland have all been riding the bowl and peacefully coexisting with the skateboarders and inline skaters for years. The decision to exclude us was made arbitrarily and unfairly. It is our belief that this decision was both wrong and destructive.
Skateparks are places where kids are turned on to activities and lifestyles that are positive. BMX riding has saved many kids from hanging out on the streets and being caught up in destructive activities. Excluding BMX riders from the facilities that they ride is turning children back to the streets.
We are petitioning to be allowed as BMX riders to again be allowed to ride the bowl. This is the right decision because it is fair. It is the right decision to make because it will give more kids the ability to learn a positive way of life.
