We, the undersigned, residents of Dutchess County, the Town or Village of Fishkill, and/or the Hudson Valley OR having ancestors from the Hudson Valley, New York whose early history goes back to our Dutch Ancestors who settled this Valley and whose language is responsible for many of the names from which our town and street names are derived are sending People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) this message:
We agree with Fishkill Supervisor Joan Pagones when she states:
''We love animals, we love fish, we love dogs, we love cats. 'We can't change our heritage."
We, however, strengthen Supv. Pagones statement extensively by emphatically saying, "We WILL NOT, WE SHALL NOT, WE MUST NOT, change OUR HERITAGE.
We are determined insure that this part of OUR HERITAGE remains in order to keep this part of our history alive for future generations - Our Town names and Street Signs are a constant reminder to children and adults of OUR HERITAGE and link us back to those to whom we owe our very being.
We ask PETA to stick to the real issues of Animal Cruelty and leave OUR HERITAGE alone. It is OUR HERITAGE and we intend to PRESERVE it.
